Greetings right back at ya, San Francisco. One day, I’m headed right for you…waxandmilk:

Pictory Mag presents: Twenty-Nine Portraits, One City
Started by Laura Brunow Minor after the fall of JPG magazine (sadface), Pictory is an online photo publication showcasing some of the best user-submitted photography based on different themes. Their current theme is a feature on the city of San Francisco, with more cities to be determined in the future.
Really epic photos throughout, as well as good narratives from the photographers themselves.

Dream Vocations

Astronaut. Artist. Vet. Archaeologist. Astronomer. Actress. Singer. Hairdresser. Make-up Artist. Teacher. Psychologist. Forensic Scientist. Biologist. Chemist. Parapsychologist. Ghost Hunter. Tarot Reader. Writer. Stripper. Exotic Dancer. Cake Decorator. Pastry Chef. Photographer. Egyptologist. Model Maker. Hat Maker.
Aromatherapist. Crystal Healer. Jewellery Designer. Baker. Interior Decorator.
Party Planner. A few of the above I have dabbled in. But not to any great success.
(The list goes on…and yes, a lot are from childhood, hence Astronaut etc.)

Reality

Clothes Folder. Floor Sweeper. Till Bunny. Petrol Station Attendant.
Growing microbes and experimenting on them, and failing to do it well.
Mixing chemicals and experimenting with them, and failing to do it well.
Insurance Sales. Period of Unemployment.
Shop Assistant (take this answer and multiply it a few times.)
Training in Psychiatric Nursing, which led to stints in care homes and hospitals, day centres and secure units, but mainly led to a lot of growing up and the realisation of what I could and couldn’t do.
Right now all I do is move books around and dust a lot.
Can you tell it’s driving me insane?

Post with 2 notes

Today I looked into the world of returning to university.
It’s a scary thought, but something I’m seriously considering.
I’d love to go back and do something that I want to do this time. I was seventeen when I started first time round. Who the hell knows what they want to do with their life at that age? I may have thought I did, but your judgement is always clouded by teachers and parents, friends and money. I’ve changed my mind countless times since then, and ended up trying out a lot of different avenues.
If only I could have tried out even more.
Still time to, it’s just that recently I seem to have stalled.
My previous qualifications are long out of date now, so I would have to go through access courses and the world of being known as a mature student. The phrase makes me piss myself laughing.
Is the hassle worth it? Is the fact that I have to pay my own way this time round too much to deal with? Do I really want to put myself through it all again?
First things first. I have to actually decide on what to study.
That would be a start.

PKD Dreaming

Apart from an Alien-based nightmare in the early hours of Monday morning, I’ve been living in a Blade Runner themed world when I go to sleep at night.
I seem to be replaying the same scenes from the old PC game over and over again.
Maybe it’s because I never could complete it.
Too many guys in that sewer system with better guns and quicker reflexes.
Do you think it’s possible that I’ll reach the end via my subconscious?
Or will I be stuck going over the bits I know?
If I hear “that can’t be me!” once more, I may just take the character I’m playing on some form of killing spree in Chinatown.

At least I get to use the Voight-Kampff test and stay in an appartment with a nice neon view.
And around three in the morning, when I’m a Deckard clone, I don’t worry about anything. Nothing at all.
Damn I need that in real life.

Find your best Film Noir voice, add sarcasm, whisky, and say it with me:
“No messages. I’m in demand.”

If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time.

Dreams as Anticipation for the State of Being Awake (New York Times) →

Well this IS interesting, and requires further reading…

psychotherapy:

“This tells me that there are these two systems, and that in fact they can be running at the same time.”

Researchers have a way to go before they can confirm or fill out this working hypothesis. But the payoffs could extend beyond a deeper understanding of the sleeping brain. People who struggle with schizophrenia suffer delusions of unknown origin. Dr. Hobson suggests that these flights of imagination may be related to an abnormal activation of a dreaming consciousness. “Let the dreamer awake, and you will see psychosis,” Jung said.
